This season has been a road of discovery for the young Florida Gators. On Saturday night in The Swamp, they discovered what it’s like to get punched in the face.
The question now is: how do they respond?
Meyer said on his conference call with the media Sunday morning that he’s not sure how these kids will handle the crushing 20-17 loss to Auburn that the Tigers won on the final play with a 43-yard field …

How Auburn can win:
It’s pretty stunning that the Gators are favored by 19 points in Saturday’s game. The Tigers have struggled on offense with a young line and a mistake-prone quarterback, but I just don’t see how you can justify a 19-point spread.
Auburn has the best defense Florida has seen this season, by far, and can cause some problems with its speed and aggression. If the Tigers can put some pressure on Tim Tebow and …

In last Saturday’s victory at Ole Miss, Florida’s offense, which is supposed to feature a plethora of playmakers, evolved into a two-man show.
Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin.
And what a show it was.
Tebow rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns, threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns and amassed 427 of Florida’s 507 yards of total offense. Harvin caught 11 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
And, of course, when the …

This is a different time, a new Florida team and a new coaching era in Gainesville. But it’s hard to ignore history going into the Florida-Mississippi game.
Yes, this should be a blowout. The Gators should have this game in hand by halftime. But, it won’t be. History says so.
Of all the tough places to play in the SEC, Florida’s biggest struggles over the past two decades have occurred in the state of Mississippi. In their last five trips to …

With the Florida offense piling up yards and points, sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow is starting to emerge as a possible Heisman candidate across the nation. Here’s something else to speculate on: when does offensive coordinator Dan Mullen’s name start surfacing as a strong head coaching candidate?
That could happen very soon.
Mullen not only coordinates the offense and works with the quarterbacks, he calls the plays. And it’s hard to argue with his play-calling through the first three games. …

Florida coach Urban Meyer said he was so worried about his young defense going into the Tennessee game that he needed to take an Ambien to get to sleep Friday night. The reality, though, is that Meyer went to bed feeling much better about his defense ” and his team in general ” after watching Troy wipe out Oklahoma State, a team that had been competitive against Georgia on the road.
He didn’t really need a …

Predicting a wild shootout in The Swamp makes perfect sense. Florida is
young and struggling on defense and Tennessee is also having problems
slowing teams down, while both offenses have been rolling.
I can’t remember the last time UT and UF came into this game on such shaky ground defensively. It’s an uneasy feeling going into any game with a questionable defense. It’s downright uncomfortable in a rivalry game that means so much to both teams.
You have to figure …

Andre Caldwell’s sprained knee comes at such a bad time. Not only was
he starting to emerge as one of the nation’s elite wide receivers, but
Tennessee is in The Swamp on Saturday and this was going to be a
special day for Caldwell.
It was two years ago that Caldwell’s season was ruined when he suffered a broken leg returning the opening kickoff against the Vols. UT’s return to Florida Field is something Caldwell had been looking forward to …

Florida’s defense going to be under the microscope this week after gettingshredded in the second half of Saturday night’s 59-31 romp over Troy. ButUrban Meyer was quick to come to the defense of his defense on his Sundayteleconference with the media.
Meyer said if the offense had just taken care of the ball in the secondhalf, the overall UF implosion would not have occurred.
He’s right.
The big turning point started when wide receiver Andre Caldwell lost afumble after making a …

Despite some problems on defense a week ago, the Gators are a heavy favorite against Troy and should win going away this week. But of course, there will be some nervous moments, especially in the first half.
This Troy team is similar to Western Kentucky in that the Trojans will spread the field and try to take advantage of UF’s inexperienced cornerbacks. WKU took the opening drive deep into UF territory before being stopped short on fourth-and-1. The Hilltoppers also …
