The mentoring Gators

I did a story in Thursday’s paper about the Florida football team partnering with the African American Accountability Alliance of Alachua County to form a mentoring program for at-risk black male middle school students. First practice with pads

The Gators put on the pads for the first time this spring, and there was plenty of big-time hitting going on Saturday morning and early afternoon on the practice field. The best moments came late in the session, when the offense and defense went head-to-head from the 12-yard line going in to determine a winner for the day (it was the offense, as it turned out, which scored more times than it was stopped). Early spring observations

Some early observations from spring football practice: Carl Moore, the highly touted junior college wide receiver, does not appear as fast and as strong as I thought he was going to be, but he’s obviously a very good athlete and catches any and every ball thrown his way.
