Put up time for Hunter, Okine

by admin

Defensive linemen Earl Okine and Omar Hunter arrived on campus a year ago with big-time credentials and expectations that were off the charts. Okine, an early enrollee, was expected to push for immediate playing time at end. Hunter, whom Urban Meyer called the Tim Tebow of the 2008 recruiting class, arrived in May with the idea that the early start would give him the opportunity to earn a starting role at defensive tackle, where the Gators were so thin and unproven. Neither did a thing, … Read More »

Some early spring observations

by admin

* The offense is definitely going to look a little different – and do some different things – with the influence of new quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler, who has an excellent track record developing quarterbacks. For one, Tim Tebow is going to line up under center at times for the first time in his career, and the Gators are going to have a conventional two-back look like they did with Chris Leak in 2006. This won’t happen often, but it’s going to be part of an … Read More »

Door still open for Davis?

by admin

The word going around at UF’s annual Pro Day on Wednesday was that troubled defensive tackle Torrey Davis could have a chance to be back in August. Although Davis officially left the football program last Friday, he remains in classes at UF. A lot apparently has to happen between now and the start of two-a-days, but the door is still ajar for Davis to possibly return. I doubt it’s going to happen, but like the former ball coach used to say, he’s got … Read More »

Pro Day sights – Current Gators

by admin

* Outside linebacker Lerentee McCray, who saw playing time on special teams as a true freshman last season, looks like he’s added considerable muscle and weight since the fall. * Matt Patchan, who is making the move back to offensive tackle from defensive tackle, looks strong and fit, but he still needs a gain a bunch of weight before August. He looks to be in the 260-range right now, too light for an OT in the SEC. * Offensive guard Maurice Hurt has lost weight and … Read More »

Torrey on a tight rope

by admin

Florida defensive tackle Torrey Davis is in limbo. Based on what we’re hearing, he’s not officially off the team at this point, and he’s not officially on it, either. If he were one or the other, we’d be hearing it from the folks over at UF. But at this point, there’s nothing official on his status. What it comes down to is Davis is in the same kind of limbo as defensive tackle Steven Harris after the 2005 season. In other … Read More »

Just one bad loss

by admin

But don’t try to make too much of that one miserable day on the diamond – or the fact Florida was swept in the three-game series. This team is better than that. Even in the Friday and Saturday losses, the Gators played sound, fundamental baseball and had a chance to win both games. The performance on Sunday is one that stunned UF coach Kevin O’Sullivan, who was shaking his head after the game and wondering where that … Read More »
