The Tebow debate begins

by admin

Now that the 2009 NFL Draft is over, the great debate begins for the 2010 draft. Is Tim Tebow an NFL quarterback? The talking heads have already begun batting this back and forth among themselves, and this is an argument that will go on and on and on over the next 12 months. In my mind, there is no doubt, there is no debate. Tim Tebow is going to be a very good NFL quarterback. And he’s going to be … Read More »

Spring football awards

by admin

Remember all those spring awards that Steve Spurrier used to hand out to his players at every spring game? Well, we’ve decided to bring back the tradition with some spring awards of our own. These awards are not based so much on feedback from the coaches, but from observing all 14 spring practices and the Orange and Blue Game. So, here we go: Best quarterback: We all know the winner here. Tim Tebow had a very good spring and seemed to improve his … Read More »

As Percy’s World Turns

by admin

Some associated with the NFL have said that Percy Harvin seems to live in his own little world. Percy World. Based on recent reports, that world is spinning off in the wrong direction where the draft is concerned. Let’s see, some have questioned his durability, two Internet sites have reported (through anonymous sources) he failed a drug test for marijuana at the NFL Combine, and others have speculated that he might have an attitude problem. Now, the latest. The Newark Star-Ledger reported Wednesday that Harvin … Read More »

Forget the star system

by admin

Now that college football recruiting has gotten so big (and so year-around), admit it, you’re like everyone else, you’re into the player and class rankings – and really into the the number of stars that are assigned to each recruit by the recruiting services. If he’s a two-star recruit, you don’t want him. If he’s a three-star guy, well, maybe. But you want your favorite school’s class filled with four and five-star recruits (who wouldn’t?). Anything less and your team might drop out of the top … Read More »

The light goes on

by admin

It happens every spring, of course. Players with potential who haven’t done much in the past suddenly start getting it and start becoming players. The most improved. We’ve seen it happen in the first half of Florida’s spring. Here’s who I consider the most improved players of the spring so far: * Markihe Anderson: The senior cornerback is fully healthy for the first time in a long time and he’s starting to consistently make plays. He intercepted another … Read More »

Harvin in free fall?

by admin

Just a few weeks ago, Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin seemed to have everything going for him. He’d just had a killer workout in front of the NFL coaches and scouts in The Swamp and his draft stock seemed to be soaring. There was talk he was moving up into the top 15 in the draft. Now, there is growing speculation that Harvin could actually fall to the second round. Harvin took his first hit shortly after UF’s Pro Day, … Read More »

Frankie goes wild at practice

by admin

At the start of the spring, if you were asked to predict who would be the young breakout player of the spring, I doubt it would have been redshirt freshman wide receiver Frankie Hammond Jr.. He certainly wasn’t mine. But now, a week into drills, Hammond is my young guy player of the spring so far. He has stood out in practice every day, making catches and running smooth routes. He has been the most noticeable freshman orredshirt freshman on the practice field. … Read More »
