Georgia prediction time

by Robbie Andreu

I’ve been going over this all week, and I’ve come up with two very plausible scenarios for how this game will play out Saturday in Jacksonville. Here’s the first one: Florida’s red-zone woes continue, the Gators turn the ball over a few times on offense, give up a few plays on defense, and the Bulldogs spring the upset, dashingUF’s national title hopes. Part of this scenario would include Joe Cox having all kinds of time to throw and consistently moves the Georgia … Read More »

Dunlap starting to turn it on

by Robbie Andreu

Before the start of the season, junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap was talking big about the things he planned to do this season. He wanted to set the UF season sack record. He wanted to be a dominant player on what he said could be the greatest defense in the history of college football. Then he went out and basically did nothing for the first few games. He was barely noticed. He was rarely a factor. But he’s turned that around in … Read More »

Gators seem loose, relaxed

by Robbie Andreu

Florida may appear to be playing and coaching tight these days, but Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer were relaxed and smiling through their Monday press conferences.

Mississippi State prediction time

by Robbie Andreu

Scott Field isn’t on anyone’s top 10 list of toughest places to play in college football, but it’s been a nightmare venue for the Gators, who haven’t won there since 1985. They’re 0-4 since then.

Where are the playmakers on defense?

by Robbie Andreu

Much is being made about Florida’s lack of playmakers on offense. But what about that UF defense? Those guys aren’t making a lot of plays, either. A year ago, during Florida’s amazing run to the national championship, the defense’s ability to force turnovers (and actually score) was one of the reasons the Gators enjoyed such high-scoring games and lopsided victories in the second half of the season. This season, the games have been closer, the scores lower. Everyone points to … Read More »

They are what they are

by Robbie Andreu

At about the same time last season, a loss to Ole Miss seemed to unite the Gators and send them speeding off in the right direction after some early-season struggles. Will a near-loss to Arkansas on Saturday have a similar effect? Will the Gators start opening things up and turning things on like they did during their national championship run a year ago? It’s possible. But probably not likely. That’s not to say the Gators won’t run the table and reach the … Read More »

Arkansas prediction time

by Robbie Andreu

I’ve been hearing the comparisons all week between this season’s Arkansas game and last season’s Ole Miss game, that staggering upset in The Swamp. Certainly, there are similarities. Arkansas is from the Western Division and is led by a high-profile quarterback transfer from a traditional power. Last year, it wasJevan Snead. Saturday, it’s Ryan Mallett, the strong-armed thrower who transferred from Michigan and has been lighting it up lately. The one big difference I see is that this Arkansas team appears … Read More »

Zooker under the gun

by Robbie Andreu

The heat is building in a hurry around Ron Zook, the former Florida coach who is now the head coach at Illinois. A Chicago radio station had me on the air for about 20 minutes on Tuesday talking about Zook. Based on what they were saying (and asking), there is a growing sentiment in Illinois to dump Zook. The Illini is losing (off to a 1-4 start overall, 0-3 in the Big Ten) and the fans are grumbling about Zook’s … Read More »

Moore probably gone for the season

by Robbie Andreu

After emerging as a go-to guy in the spring, it appeared former junior college wide receiver Carl Moore was headed for a breakout season in 2009. Now, it looks like he’s not going to play at all. The senior has been battling a lower back issue that required surgery and he appears headed for a redshirt season. “I’m worried,” UF coach Urban Meyer said at his Monday press conference. “He does have a redshirt available. He’s getting better. His attitude is tremendous. … Read More »

Prediction time for the LSU game

by Robbie Andreu

One thing I’m not going to predict is whether Tim Tebow starts Saturday night. Let’s just say I won’t be shocked if he does, I won’t be shocked if he doesn’t. But I will predict this: the Gators are good enough to win this game without Tebow. They’re better on both lines of scrimmage than LSU, they’re better on defense, they’re better on special teams. Meyer’s plan to win will be in full effect for this one. That means play strong defense, … Read More »
