Here’s my first prediction: Alabama won’t even come close to looking as good as it did in the Tide’s thumping of Florida in the SEC Championship Game. Florida’s mystifyingly bad performance on defense contributed greatly to the efficiency of the Tide offense. That Alabama offense will return to what it was earlier in the season in the BCS Championship Game. NEW ORLEANS — Riding a 22-game winning streak and feeling no one could beat them, the Florida Gators got knocked down a huge notch in the SEC Championship Game. * Now that defensive line coach Dan McCarney has said he has no desire to become UF’s next defensive coordinator, the assistant on the staff most likely to be promoted to the position (if that’s what Urban Meyer chooses to do) is safeties coach Chuck Heater, who has worked with Meyer the past seven years.

Florida coach Urban Meyer will pretty much disappear after Friday’s Sugar Bowl when he begins his indefinite leave of absence to take care of his health issues.
But quarterback Tim Tebow, who has called Meyer his father away from home, plans on spending some quality time with Meyer after the season. Tebow said he expects to get Meyer out on the golf course.
“Hopefully, I’ll beat him in golf a few times,” Tebow said.

It looks like most of the Lakeland boys will be bolting on the Gators after the Sugar Bowl. That’s the word from Bruce Black, the father of junior strong safety Ahmad Black.
